The Spring Equinox Show at WideRiver this year was well received. At the opening and during judge Steve Griffins talk you literally could not push open a door to get in for a while as the crowd filled the main area. We had 32 artists entering one or two pieces in 3 categorys of painting , photography, and three dimensional.

The winners were announced at that time and ribbons given to each artist to their utter delight and total surprise. Winner in each category received $100 and space in a future WideRiver Show. The Best In Show is $200 and a featured artist space in a future show.

In Photography: Glen Gemmell from Colonial Beach for his "Potomac" masterfully enhanced photo of great falls; absolutely breathtaking.

In 3-D: Kevin McCluskey from Fredericksburg, for his art doll called "Entredeaux" tall and on a stand this piece is free form all hand stiched and
a total surprise.

In Painting: Sara Looney from Colonial Beach and a founding member of Colonial Beach Art Guild. Her little beautifully framed oil with with palette knife is so refreshing and pure, nothing overdone. Entitled "Mattox Creek In Late Spring" it certainly captures the essence of the joy of spring living on the water.

Best In Show: Went to WideRiver Gallery's own gallery artist: Andrea Clement originally from Trinidad and now Colonial Beach. Her large acrylic has a fanciful ,magical quality of discovey.

Steve Griffin Emeritus Professor of art, University of Mary Washington was our esteemed judge this year. We are alway honored to tap into his knowledge and insight into what makes good art, better and best art.
